I love designing with wallpaper in the bedroom and I especially love using it as an accent wall behind the bed. It effortlessly brings the main focus of the room to the headboard, and for the budget conscious project it can eliminate the need for a bedframe with an expensive headboard. Your imagination is the limit when it comes to the effect you create—from soft and subtle to all out glamorous.

In the design of this master bedroom the floral pillows came first. I was aiming for a taupe and soft purple colour scheme and came across these ready-made toss cushions at one of my suppliers. The wallpaper matched the colour scheme beautifully and added a beautiful subtle texture to the wall that was both quiet and eye-catching.

A large framed painting with two fabric mounted panels on either side makes up the headboard of this master bed. To compliment the headboard and the bed coverings without taking attention away from them, I added a subtle pin stripe textured wallpaper.

The teenage girl who sleeps here picked out this dramatic floral wallpaper for her bedroom. The room was then designed around the wallpaper, which luckily came with a matching fabric for the cushion on the bed. If chosen carefully, bold wallpaper can make a small room feel more open and airy.

Wallpaper murals are a popular design trend at the moment and the great thing about wallpaper is it can be applied to most flat surfaces. In this young boys bedroom we purchased a map mural, had it custom sized to fit over his headboard, mounted it to a flat board, and hung it as art.
