I spent an entire afternoon at the Interior Design Show 2020 (IDS 2020) this past weekend and par for the course the exhibits concentrated on current design trends and products, emerging industry practices and innovation. There was a lot to take in and I loaded up on creative inspiration. Part One, Two and Three of my tour through IDS 2020 will showcase some of my personal favorites.
One of my favorite finds was the Matt Handcrafted Modular Concrete Panels. Loving the look of concrete but not the environmental impact Randy and Colleen Orr set out to create these ultra-light weight artisan panels. They come in a diverse range of architectural concrete styles and are sold in 3’ x 5’ sheets. “Matt Concrete Panels use 95% less concrete than a traditional concrete panel. They are easy to cut, easy to install, and eco-friendly”.
I LOVE this new collection of tiles introduced by Ceragres. The rich colours and intricate patterns took my breath away. I am usually not one for specifying trendy tile patterns at the risk of them dating quickly; however I imagine on their beauty alone, these tiles will withstand the test of time. This ceramic tile series is called Biscuit. Ceragres has them at their showroom but at the date of this post only the white version is on the website.
This gorgeous wood flooring with metal inlay is called Marvella 304, and is manufactured and supplied by Three Trees Flooring. The wood is European White Oak. The colour of the wood can be customized. The metal inlay—which is cut 2 mm thick and cut by a CNC machine–comes in silver and brass. Consider using this for flooring, wall or ceiling panels, tables and doors.
The tile selection on display at the Surfaces Co. booth was stunning. With locations in Montreal and Toronto, this boutique company offers a carefully curated and exclusive selection of luxury surfaces. They also carry fittings and accessories for kitchen and bath. It is worth a visit to their beautiful showroom if simply to be inspired by the creativity and possibilities.
In my humble opinion, this was one of the best booths in the show. Purparket was showing off their engineered European White Oak and luxury vinyl flooring. The vinyl looks just like wood. I didn’t even realize it was vinyl until someone pointed it out to me. The product is beautiful, and the company has a notable interest in the preservation of nature, which you can read about on their website brochure. Two big thumbs up in my book.
