Veteran designer Celia Alida Rutte is one of Canada’s best when it comes to the art of decorating. Inspired by the work of floral designer Bruno Duarte of Fresh Florals, Celia shows viewers on Cityline how to make a gorgeous floral display with succulents, orchid flowers and fruit.
With life on perpetual speed dial it can be difficult to find time to add the beauty of florals to your home. For a simple, gorgeous, custom designed centerpiece or arrangement, this DIY assembly might be the conversation piece you are looking for. Add it to your dinner or foyer table in three easy steps:
STEP 1:
Start with a sculpted branch as your framework and set it down in the exact spot you want to display your arrangement.
STEP 2:
Play around with a mix of succulents, moss, and fresh fruit, laying them in various positions until you are satisfied with the results.
STEP 3:
Add flowers randomly or in big bunches by trimming stems. If you want to add another level of stunning to your display add a few Symbidium Orchids. These are not the kind of Orchids you buy at the grocery store; you will need to source these from a florist. Symbidium pedals are fleshy and you can manipulate the pedals.
When setting a table around this kind of arrangement, let your centerpiece steal the show. There is no need to over decorate. A simple white place setting with clear glass or crystal and white candles will set it off perfectly. If you are hosting outside put the candles inside hurricane lamps; and for a thoughtful added touch drape a shawl over the back of each chair so your guests can cover up as the night gets cooler. With a beautiful ambience, a cozy environment, and some good company you might find your dinner party or celebration going long into the wee hours of the night.
